In launching TerraCycle's lines of liquid fertilizer, cleaners, repellents, etc., I realized something: Almost all products that are sold as liquid in a bottle -- from window cleaner to ant repellent -- are in fact extremely similar to bottled water.

TAMPA - TAMPA - Mayors across the country are talking up the virtues of tap water, some are even banning their cities from buying water in bottles.
They say bottled water costs more than tap, that bottles are bad for the environment.
Tampa Mayor Pam Iorio, however, has no plans to follow the ban-the-bottle movement.
"The trend toward bottled water has been very healthy for our country," Iorio said.

While many Star readers, undoubtedly, choose bottled water, the article served up a one-sided view that was not in the best interests of Star readers.
Residents warned of arsenic in tap water (Jun 4, 2008 at 8:46 AM) - Sunland Park resident Tina Cedillo said her family has used bottled water to drink and cook for as long as she can remember. The city government recently sent letters to residents of Sunland Park and Santa Teresa advising that their water may contain high levels of arsenic.
Bottled water important to health (Jun 4, 2008 at 8:42 AM) - In an effort to make a point, Seattle Mayor Greg Nickels collected empty beverage containers for his tap water promotion display ("Forget bottled water, Seattle's tap water is just fine, says city," May 7).
It's a good reminder that recycling is the right thing to do with consumer packaging, food and beverages included. |
